Blowing One's Nose

Please remember this when you have a cold in Japan

Snuffling^^ is acceptable when you have the flu Whereas blowing your nose is considered taboo I never really understood the reason why it is so But "gou ni haitte wa gou ni shitagae*" deshou**?

Notes:

^^Snuffling ＝ 風邪で呼吸するとき音がする *Gou ni haitte wa gou ni shitagae（郷に入って郷に従え）＝ the Japanese counterpart for "When in Rome, do as the Romans do" **Deshou（でしょう）＝ in this context, this means "don't you agree?" or "right?"
